Dr. Philip DiSalvio holds an Ed.D. from Harvard University Graduate School of Education in Administration, Planning and Social Policy, a post-doctoral fellowship in Healthcare Management and Finance from Johns Hopkins University and is a Robert Wood Johnson Faculty Fellow in Healthcare Finance. Dr. DiSalvio is the recipient of the 2008 Excellence in Online Administration Award from the Center for Internet Technology in Education and eCollege. This award recognizes individuals who are seen as visionary in the development and management of successful online education. Speaking extensively in the area of technology mediated education and online learning, Dr. DiSalvio was a featured presenter in the Academic Leader online seminar, "Aligning Faculty Incentives with Shifting Modes of Delivery" and was interviewed in the September 2007 edition of the Academic Leader on the subject of “Revising Workload, Promotion, and Tenure Policies for Online Faculty.” Recent presentations include "Aligning Faculty Workload, Promotion and Tenure Policies with the Shifting Educational Delivery Environment: Challenges, Strategies and Recommendations," where he served as a featured speaker at the 2007 Association of University Programs in Health Administration (AUPHA) Leaders Conference; “Developing an Interprofessional Orientation in a Graduate Healthcare Administration Program: Lessons from the Field,” Speaker and Panelist Chair at the 2006 Association of University Programs in Health Administration (AUPHA) Annual Meeting; "Becoming the Guide on the Side: Learning to Innovate in Teaching and Student Assessment," Panelist, at the 2005 Association of University Programs in Health Administration (AUPHA) Annual Meeting; "Developing an Infrastructure for an Online Campus: Beyond the Classroom," at the Syllabus 2003 10th Annual Conference, "Unbundling Cost Variations: A Comparative Study of Online Degree Programs," at the 7th Sloan-C International Conference on Online Learning, "Developing an eLearning Strategy," at the 4th Annual Ubiquitous Computing Conference and "Building the Right Strategic Partnerships for the Online Campus," at the e-Learning Strategy Summit. Dr. DiSalvio has been interviewed in the Wall Street Journal, Salon.com and a number of other national publications on the subject of online learning and distance education. Recent publications include an article in University Business, entitled "Harvard Online: Paradigm Shift, or Business as Usual?" He co-edited a Special Issue on The State Of Online Education in Health Administration Programs in the Journal of Health Administration Education, (19:1), and authored "The Design And Implementation Of An Online Graduate Program In Health Administration: An Academic Director's Lessons From The Field," in that issue. Co-author of the text Managing Computers in Healthcare, 2nd and 3rd editions (published by Healthcare Administration Press and the Foundation of the American College Healthcare Executives and is also the author of the American College of Healthcare Executives Self-Directed Learning Series "The Management and Control of Technology."
Dr. DiSalvio currently serves as a reviewer for the Journal of Health Administration Education, a committee member of the Higher Education and Research Committee for the American College of Healthcare Executives, and a member of the American College of Healthcare Executives New Jersey Regent Advisory Committee. He has served as an as an Advisory Board member of the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey School of Health Related Professions and as a Board Member of the Morristown Memorial Hospital Institutional Review Board.
