Final Reflection

Developed at Western Oregon University, Teacher Work Samples exhibit a teacher's plan for a unit topic and show results of student learning. Contents of a Teacher Work Sample will often provide information on these headings:

Context (description of situation and community and effects of these factors)
Goals/objectives (consider school, district, state, national)
Rationale (explain purpose and significance)
Pre-post assessment (tools or strategies)
Lesson Plans with modifications
Data Analysis
Reflective Essay

A PowerPoint overview of the TWS approach provides a helpful introduction to this assessment tool as does reading McConney's 1998 piece on "Work samples as authentic performance of prospective teacher effectiveness." in the Journal of Personnel Evaluation in Education, 11, 343-363.
