Profile

Roberta Devlin-Scherer (B.S. in Ed., West Chester University, M.Ed. and Ed.D. Temple University) is a member of the Department of Educational Studies in the College of Education and Human Services at Seton Hall University

Her degrees are in Curriculum and Instruction, with post doctoral work in Special Education.  She has experience teaching in middle and high school, resource room and residential special education settings.

Instructional Theory into Practice, one of her classes, is based at college-approved middle schools, where prospective teachers practice and teach model lessons throughout the semester. Her classes deal with assessing classroom teaching and learning and include, Contemporary Assessment, Advanced Teaching Strategies, English Language Arts, Educational Evaluation, and Cooperative Learning.  

Classroom Organization and Management, Active Teaching and Learning, and Learning to Teach in the Inner City and with Diverse Populations are three National Diffusion Network Programs for which she has conducted training. 

Research interests include: effects of training programs on classroom teacher and administrative behavior and effective teaching practices. She has recent presentations and articles on undergraduate research projects, Lesson Study, portfolios, technology applications in different subjects, using video to analyze teaching, and student-faculty telecommunications. These are based on work she has done with Seton Hall students and faculty. A book, Teaching for Learning, is forthcoming.
