                                     GREEK CIVILIZATION SYLLABUS

Texts required (See Vital Information,   'Greek Civilization' page)

            Main Web Sites:
                 My HomePage:
http://pirate.shu.edu/~cottereu/
                 Greek Civ Pg: http://pirate.shu.edu/~cottereu/greek.htm
                      Perseus Home: http://medusa.perseus.tufts.edu/
                 Relevant Links
:http://pirate.shu.edu/~cottereu/classica.htm

I have tried, for your convenience, to:
                        1. Summarize the Topics for each Class.

                        2. indicate the pages of the various texts which are most relevant to the class following.
However these pages are only the minimum, and you are responsible for all of the text..
Use the Indices of each text to find specific references where no pages are suggested.

The various LINKS placed within the Topics are only samples. Many others
will be found on the Resources page.

If you put in the time, you will discover that Perseus will pay quick dividends
in the numbers of text citations, photos (coins, vases, sculpture, buildings),
maps, ground plans, etc., you can make use of.

After we are sure everyone is 'on' E-Mail you will get a set of 'leading' questions to highlight the important topics.  'Report Topics' & additional background material will also come that way, and should be printed by you in the Lab, so few class 'handouts' will be needed.

[Note: The Readings given below usually refer to (and should be 'done' before)
the next class. As noted in part one of the Syllabus, there may be brief quiz
(oral/written) at the start of any class, based on the reading..

In addition to the readings, you should also search the Perseus Web site,
                               especially the Perseus
On-Line Perseus Encyclopedia and/or Overview
(e.g., for 'Minoans') for further useful information on the current topic(s)]
