Perhaps the volunteers feel more anxiety when more of
a reward is thought to be riding on their performance.
But that is only an assumption, and a questionable one,
as well.  The label for the independent variable should
be one that we can have great confidence in (there's that
CONSTRUCT VALIDITY issue again!)
