ACADEMIC EXPERIENCE

 LIBRARY

Seton Hall University: October 1992 to present:

Associate Professor/Reference Librarian/Coordinator, Library Information Literacy Program (tenure awarded 9/98).

Coordinater, Library Information Literacy Program. Responsible for all information literacy coordination and research in University Libraries, including: Library instruction liaison to Freshman Studies, Freshman English, schools of Graduate Medical Education and Nursing; keeping instruction statistics; responsibility for development of library information literacy program; coordinating instruction meetings; overseeing instruction quality and policies; responsibility for continuing education and research regarding information literacy/fluency.

University Libraries representative on the University Committee to Develop a New Core Curriculum. Advocates articulated inclusion of Information Literacy (Fluency) in the core curriculum.

Library liaison to Schools of Graduate Medical Education, Nursing, and subject specialist for departments of Music, Art, Nursing, Graduate Medical Education, Women’s Studies, Biology, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics. Other duties include reference services, bibliographic instruction, collection development, proposal writing, planning, and service to the University and surrounding communities. Create music literature and sound recording collections; provide bibliographic services in women’s studies, music, art, electronic search strategies and analysis.

                       

TEACHING

Adjunct Professor: For the School of Education and Human Services: Wintersession graduate/undergraduate course on educational research technologies (BMIE3710, EDST6216), with S. Anita Talar. The course covers strategies and overview of all electronic research, including resources specific to Seton Hall University, as well as the Internet.

Library Instruction: Regularly teach classes in areas of English, science, nursing, education, advanced research, communications, research technologies, art, and general topics.

                        Team Leader and Faculty Trainer:  University Committee to Develop a New Core Curriculum Subcommittee on Information Fluency.

           

OTHER EXPERIENCE

EDITORIAL

            Newsweek Magazine: 1979 to January 1992. Copyreader, Operations Coordinator.

Corrected spelling, grammar, syntactical errors, and inconsistencies in running stories. Worked with Newsweek’s computer (Mainframe—Tandem) network, editorial files, and electronic copy flow. Trouble-shooter in emergency situations.

            Plenum Publishing Co.: 1969 to 1972 (Freelance: 1972 to 1983).

Copyeditor and editorial supervisor of Sci-Tech journals translated from Russian. Ability to transliterate Russian for purpose of copyediting translations; Proofreading and copyediting camera-ready copy; Supervising proofreaders in production of four journals for the Instrument Society of America.

THEATRICAL

            Tours, films, Off-Broadway, night clubs: 1972 to late 1980s.

Singing; Dancing; Acting; Developed night-club act.

GRANTS

Coauthor of a $75,000 Curriculum Development Initiative (CDI) grant, which was funded in 2000.  At Seton Hall University, CDI grants are designed to support collaboration between constituencies on campus. In this case the grant focused on collaboration between Library faculty and faculty in the English and Psychology departments.
