Overview
Spanish 1001 is the first semester
of a yearlong Spanish course sequence. The second semester uses the same
book and it is a continuation of the first semester. In Spanish 1001, the first
7 chapters of the textbook are studied. The next seven chapters are
covered in Spanish 1002. You will encounter practical high-frequency
vocabulary that will allow you to communicate in everyday situations. The
grammar explanations are comprehensives, but designed to be used in
communicative situations. In this course there is a development of
reading, writing and listening skills. There is also the introduction of the
different cultures of the everyday Spanish speakers.
Course Objectives
The course is designed to guide
the student in the acquisition of communicative skills in Spanish through class
activities and assignments that provide the practice so the student is able to
develop speaking, listening, reading and writing skills in practical everyday
Spanish.

The tests include 5 chapter exams to be announced by your
instructor al the end of the unit. The texts will focus on knowledge of the
vocabulary, grammar and culture studied in each chapter. Speaking is
evaluated through daily participation in class. The final exam is
departmental and is in the form of a multiple-choice objective exam that
includes all the material in the seven chapters.
