Application Form for Personal Account on PIRATE

You can fill out a simple online form to either apply for your own personal web account, or to modify your existing account so that it is "FrontPage enabled". When creating a new account, you have your choice of asking for a "generic" account or for a "FrontPage-enabled" account. All accounts for personal web pages at Seton Hall have the address:

http://pirate.shu.edu/~[username]

where [username] is your standard eight-letter Seton Hall user ID.

Apply for Your Account

To Apply for a New FrontPage Enabled Account:

Asking for a new FrontPage account will give you an account on Seton Hall's Personal Homepage Web Server. You can use Microsoft FrontPage to create, edit, and maintain web pages for this account, but you can not use "FTP" to upload or download files. You can, however, upload and download your pages using the FrontPage "drag-and-drop" mechanism (similar to "Explorer"). If you choose this option you must use Microsoft FrontPage to interact with your web account. If you need FrontPage software to be installed on your laptop or desktop, please call the Help Desk at 973-275-2222.

To Convert an Existing Account to be FrontPage-Enabled:

If you already have a web account on "Pirate", you can choose to have the account "FrontPage enabled". That process will not change the content of your existing files, nor will it modify any of your existing pages. It will, however, add several additional directories to your account, and it will allow you to use FrontPage from now on to maintain your web site. In particular, using FrontPage you can edit documents "right on the server", without the need to download and publish any documents. You can also use FrontPage's convenient "drag-and- drop" mechanism to transfer files to and from your web account. If you choose this option, however, access to your account via FTP will be disabled, and your account is then only accessible using Microsoft FrontPage.  Therefore, you must use Microsoft FrontPage to interact with your web account.

To convert an existing account to be FrontPage-enabled, please call the Help Desk at 973-275-2222.

To apply for a new, generic account:

Asking for a generic account will give you an account on Seton Hall's Personal Homepage Web Server. You can use web editing program that supports "publishing" via "FTP". You can also upload and download your pages using an FTP program such as "WS_FTP". However, most of the Microsoft FrontPage functionality will not be able to be used (e.g. : forms without use of CGI, Front Page Counters, automatic "Last Updated" date, etc.).
